In September 2007 a group of 9 motorcyclists rode across Europe to Chernobyl in the Ukraine. The round trip of 3,500 miles, took 15 days including travel through Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Belarus. In completing our journey, we have managed to raise £15,000 for children who have been affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Pictures and account of our ride to Chernobyl Meet the team
The Chernobyl nuclear accident surely ranks as one of humanity's greatest ecological disasters. A huge area in the former Soviet states of Ukraine and Belarus was exposed to an horrific dose of radiation. Many people suffered and died back in 1986 and many people have done so since. The particular tragedy of the Chernobyl accident is that the children of Belarus, born after the accident, are still suffering from its terrible after-effects. Our aim for 2007 was to raise in excess of £10,000 for the Chernobyl Children’s Project (UK) which provides care and support for children who are still suffering the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster over 20 years later.
